چکیده

Background and aims: The prognosis of esophageal squamous cell carcinoma varies according to the degree of invasion of the tumor in the organ wall. When the trachea and the main bronchus are involved in esophageal carcinoma, the disease is classified as incurable and the mortality is lower than that for patients who can be treated with curative surgery. To evaluate the carcinoma invading the trachea and main bronchus, retrospectively, we investigated computed tomography (CT) findings. Methods: Of 74 patients with or without proven tracheobronchial involvement who underwent thoracotomy for esophagectomy and Surgery disclosed tumor invasion in pericardium, aorta, pleura, trachea, left main bronchus and parenchyma. Ten patients were not operated upon but exhibited invasion to respiratory tract by broncho-fiber scope. Results: Lt. main bronchus (NMS angle) were statistically significant in patients with and without invasion. (P<0.05) Conclusion: It is our conclusion that preoperative evaluation by CT plays an important role whether the tumor is resectable or not. Optimal timing of computed tomography for assessing lymph nodes after neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy for rectal cancer

Background: This study assessed the optimal timing of computed tomography for detection of metastatic disease in locoregional lymph nodes in patients with rectal cancer who have undergone chemoradiotherapy. Materials and Methods: This observational retrospective study was performed in a single institution. All patients with locally advanced rectal cancer treated with chemoradiotherapy, followed...

Disseminated thoracoabdominal splenosis mimicking metastatic disease: A case of colorectal cancer

Here, we describe a patient with a history of colorectal cancer in whom 2-[18F]fluoro-2-deoxy-D-glucose positron emission tomography/computed tomography ([18F]FDG PET/CT) was performed for the evaluation of response to therapy. [18F]FDG PET/CT showed a small residual disease in the rectum. In addition, multiple metabolically inactive soft tissue densities were d...

Endobronchial Ultrasound Application for Diagnosis of Tracheobronchial Tree Invasion by Esophageal Cancer

INTRODUCTION Esophageal cancer staging has been performed through bronchoscopy, computerized tomography (CT), positron emission tomography (PET), and endoscopic ultrasound (EUS). Whereas CT and PET scan provide assessments of distant metastasis, bronchoscopy importantly diagnoses tracheobronchial involvement, complementing chest CT findings. EUS is the most accurate examination for T and N stag...

Estimating the Radiation-Induced Cancer Risks in Pediatric Computed Tomography

Introduction One of the central questions in radiological protection is the magnitude of the risks from low doses of radiation, related to the justification and optimization of the diagnostic medical exposures. Therefore, the aim of this study was to estimate the cancer incidence and mortality risks in children of different ages, sizes, and ethnicities undergoing computed tomography examination...
